OUR TEAM

Shanna Fredericks
Director
Shanna has been a partner of AWN and a practitioner of Community-Based Water Monitoring in Nova Scotia for many years. Her background includes a B.Sc. in Biology from Mount Allison University, a MASc. in Protected Area Management from James Cook University, and over 13 years of environmental non-profit experience. After 10 years as Coastal Action’s Assistant Director, Shanna is excited to continue her collaborative, community-based approach to environmental conservation here at AWN. Shanna lives with her family on the South Shore of NS/Kespukwitk, where you’ll find her standing in the garden with a coffee or chauffeuring her daughter around in her spare time.

Emma Kinley
Program Manager
Emma’s background has been saturated in wetlands and conservation, working both federally and provincially, as well as within the NGO world. Starting her career with an Advanced Major in Environmental Science from St. Francis Xavier University, water quality has been a focus of many of her past roles. Emma has experience with managing environmental field operations, advising on watercourse and wetland alterations, conducting field assessments, leading training, and collaborating with partners across Atlantic Canada. AWN’s commitment to fostering shared learning and supporting freshwater stewardship resonates deeply with Emma, and she plans to bring her excitement into managing AWN’s projects and delivering training programs. When not working, you can still find Emma near/on/in the water, as well as gardening, cooking, fencing, or tending to her family.

Tristan Davies
Training & Equipment Coordinator
Tristan has recently found a passion for oceans and their conservation, starting his degree in Statistics and Ocean Science this past September at Dalhousie University. Because of this, he relates to and recognizes the importance of water quality monitoring. He enjoys attacking problems with an analytical perspective, using numbers to find the how and why of the issue before problem-solving. Tristan’s background includes experience training others in digital literacy, helping those who didn’t grow up in this technological world with becoming more accustomed to it. In his spare time, he is a competitive junior curler, competing in tournaments around the Maritimes. He lives in Hammonds Plains with his family and golden retriever, where he also teaches piano to local students.
